terrain puzzle

The product of a collaboration with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, these puzzles were designed to help people understand the importance of the ICESat-2 and the data it collects. A representation of the Columbia Glacier in Alaska divided into eight slices is used to showcase the extent of glacial melt over a 50 year time period.

Each full set takes between 16 and 32 hours to print, depending on if it’s monochrome. For monochrome prints, stamps are also printable to help users better identify the glacial footprint.

As many schools now have 3D printers, I wanted to provide teachers with an easy, cost effective way of getting high quality educational tools. For schools that may not have 3D printers, encouragement for collaboration between other schools, makerspaces, and libraries that do would benefit community building efforts. I plan on releasing all of the files for free along with a lesson plan in the near future.
